Production & Curing Policy
Last Updated: January 2026At Wholesale Tallow Soap LLC, we do not cut corners with chemistry. Unlike synthetic detergent bars (syndets) or “melt and pour” bases that can be shipped immediately, true Cold Process Tallow Soap requires a biological curing phase to reach peak quality.
This policy outlines our production timelines and explains why we will never ship “Green Soap” (uncured soap) to our wholesale partners.
1. What is “Curing” and Why Do We Do It?
Saponification (the chemical reaction between fat and lye) is technically complete within 48 hours. However, the soap is not ready to sell. It still contains excess water.
The Curing Phase (4 Weeks) allows this water to evaporate. This process is non-negotiable because it ensures:
- Hardness: Cured soap is rock-hard and lasts 2-3x longer in the shower. Uncured soap melts away in days.
- Mildness: The crystalline structure of the soap mellows over time, ensuring it is gentle on sensitive skin.
- Label Integrity: If we label uncured soap, the bar will shrink as water evaporates, causing your branded labels to wrinkle and fall off.

3. The “Green Soap” Policy
We often get asked, “Can you just ship it early and I’ll let it sit on my shelves?”
The answer is No. Here is why:
- Mold Risk: Tallow soap releases significant moisture as it cures. If we pack “green” soap into a shipping box, that moisture gets trapped, creating a breeding ground for mold and orange spots (DOS) during transit.
- Damage Risk: Uncured soap is soft (like cheddar cheese). It will dent, smash, and warp under the weight of a shipping pallet.
- Reputation Risk: If a customer buys a soft bar from you, they will think your brand sells low-quality soap. We protect your brand reputation by enforcing this cure time.
4. Planning Your Inventory
Because of the biological constraints of tallow soap, we cannot “rush” an order. You cannot cheat chemistry.
Our Recommendation:
- Forecast Early: If you plan to launch a holiday collection in November, you must order by September 1st.
- Keep Safety Stock: Do not wait until you are sold out to reorder. Place your reorder when you have 4 weeks of inventory remaining.
