Curing at a glance
Our bars can ship before they finish curing, so they reach you sooner. Sodium lactate in our formulas helps them firm up faster, and curing after delivery does not change the quality. We recommend at least 2 to 4 weeks of curing from the production date before you sell them.

At Wholesale Tallow Soap LLC, we make cold process tallow soap. After a batch is poured and cut, the bars keep drying for a few weeks. This policy explains that curing, when your bars ship, and how to plan your inventory around it.
What curing is
Saponification, the reaction between fat and lye, is essentially complete within about 48 hours. After that, a bar still holds extra water, which evaporates over the following weeks. That drying is curing, and it is what makes a bar harder and longer-lasting.
Our formulas include sodium lactate, which helps bars firm up faster. We recommend at least 2 to 4 weeks of curing, counted from the production date, before bars are sold.
When your bars ship
Stock orders
- Lead time: orders under 200 units ship the next business day. For orders of 200 units or more, we email you a ship date after you order.
- Bars can ship before they finish curing, so check the production date and let them finish curing on your shelf.
Custom formula orders
- Production is scheduled after you approve your pilot. We confirm the production and ship date when you place the order.
- The same curing recommendation applies: 2 to 4 weeks from the production date before you sell.
Shipping bars before curing is done
We can ship bars before they finish curing. The sodium lactate in our formulas helps them firm up faster, and shipping them uncured does not change the quality of the product. It simply gets the bars into your hands sooner.
You can sell the bars whenever you choose. For the best bar, we recommend at least 2 to 4 weeks of curing from the production date.
Finishing the cure at your place:
- Unpack the bars and set them on a rack or shelf with air around each one.
- Keep them in a cool, dry room, out of direct sun.
Planning your inventory
- Count back from your date: for a launch, a market, or a holiday collection, allow shipping time plus 2 to 4 weeks of curing.
- Reorder before you run low: new bars then have time to cure before your shelf empties.
