The definition

What is tallow soap?

Tallow soap is soap made by combining tallow, a rendered animal fat, with an alkali. That reaction is called saponification, and it turns the fat into soap.

A finished bar can also contain other fats and oils, milks, scent, colorants, or added ingredients. Our Goat Milk, Coconut Milk, and Charcoal bars are all tallow soaps, for example.

So the name alone doesn’t tell you the full formula, the sourcing, or how a bar was made. Judge the specific product, not the category.

Handmade tallow soap also keeps curing for a few weeks after it is made. Our bars can ship before they finish curing, and we recommend 2 to 4 weeks of curing from the production date before you sell them.

Tallow soap benefits

What tallow adds to a bar

These are qualities of the bar itself. Tallow soap doesn’t come with skin promises, and we don’t make them.

  • Hardness

Tallow helps make a firm bar that holds its shape.

  • Durability

A firm bar holds up through use. Bar life still depends on water, drainage, and storage.

  • Creamy lather

Tallow contributes to a creamy lather. The rest of the formula shapes the final feel.

  • Formula versatility

Tallow works in many formulas, alongside milks, oils, honey, and scents. Our 12 bars show the range.

Selling it? Describe the formula, scent, feel, and sourcing, and skip health or treatment claims you can’t support. Our tallow soap benefits guide goes deeper.

Before you buy wholesale

Six questions to ask any tallow soap supplier

The category name won’t answer them for you. Here’s what to ask, and how we answer.

  • Where does the tallow come from?

Ask for the most specific sourcing statement the supplier can support.

Our answer: pasture-raised, grass-fed, grass-finished tallow from small US family farms.

  • What is in the full formula?

Tallow may be one part of a blend, so review each product on its own.

Our answer: every product page lists its ingredients.

  • Who is your buyer?

Choose scent, look, and story around a real customer and where they shop.

Our answer: 12 scents to build an assortment around your customer.

  • Who handles the packaging?

Settle who designs, prints, and applies labels before you order.

Our answer: bars ship unlabeled, ready for your labels or our printed soap boxes at live prices; applying each one is $0.75.

  • What are the minimums?

Confirm minimums, mixing rules, and how reorders work.

Our answer: no minimum, and every soap bar counts toward one volume tier.

  • What happens after samples?

Know whether the next step is stock wholesale, private label, or a custom formula.

Our answer: $3 samples, then order online in any quantity.

Can I buy tallow soap wholesale with no minimum?

Yes. Order any of our 12 bars in any quantity. Standard bars are $4.80 each for 1 to 49 and drop to $3.25 at 2,000 or more, and every soap bar counts toward one tier.

Can I try it before I stock it?

What can I say about tallow soap on my label?

Stick to what you can support: the ingredients, scent, feel, and sourcing. Avoid health or treatment claims, and check the rules that apply to your product category.

Is your tallow lab tested?

The tallow in our body care and grass-fed bulk tallow is. Lot 26190 of the tallow in our tallow body care and Bulk Grass-Fed Grass-Finished Suet Tallow was tested by Light Labs, an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited lab, with results released July 31, 2026: moisture 0.17%, peroxide value 7.4 meq/kg, and no E. coli, Salmonella, or Staph aureus detected. The results cover one lot of tallow, not finished products, and the full certificate is available to wholesale and brand customers on request. Our bar and liquid soap use a separate grass-fed, grass-finished tallow, summarized from our soap tallow supplier’s certificate of analysis (fatty acid profile by GC/MS, March 2026) in our soap tallow fact sheet.
